Collection: Dawn Blatherwick

Dawn Blatherwick is a Yorkshire-based artist who works primarily in oil and gouache. Her love of painting began in childhood, and although she studied printmaking at university, she stepped away from art to raise a family. Many years later, she rediscovered her passion for painting and picked up the brush once again.

Her appearances on Sky’s Landscape Artist of the Year—first as a wildcard contestant and later within the competition pods—gave her the affirmation she needed to pursue life as a professional artist.

“I have always considered myself an emotive painter,” Dawn reflects. “When I spend time with my family, I am at my happiest. It’s generally these moments that I try to capture. The Yorkshire coast offers a rugged beauty, with old towns and villages nestled along the shore. It’s a timeless pleasure that keeps me returning.”

Dawn’s vibrant use of gouache captures her lifelong connection to the Yorkshire coastline. As a child, mother, and now grandmother, she has returned to these coastal places time and again, weaving nostalgia and warmth into her work—qualities that resonate universally with her audience.

In 2024, Dawn began a Yorkshire coastal tour, painting the villages and towns she visited. This journey is documented on her YouTube channel, offering a window into her creative process and her deep-rooted love for the region.
