Collection: Barbara Karn

Barbara  works in a variety of media but drawing is central to the way she explores her subject matter, using observation, imagination and invention. Over the years she has focused on many different subjects, but landscape and animal studies form the core of her current work.

Animals make lively and challenging subjects and translate well into greetings cards and limited edition prints. The cards and prints started with birds: flouncy birds, grumpy birds, kookie birds, glum birds and silly birds. These fantasy creations began when, housebound due to a broken leg, a small book of rather scrappy sketches made in Paradise Park, Hayle, became the starting point for a new imaginative journey. When her mobility returned the animal studies spread into seagulls, dogs & cats, and farmyard animals.

Silly squawkers and cheeky chaps, Barbara's seagulls are fresh and full of fun.
